Calorie calculator
Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the energy your body uses at rest, just to keep you breathing, your heart beating and your brain thinking. Your brain alone uses about 20% of it!
About this number
This calculator uses the revised Harris-Benedict equations (Roza and Shizgal, 1984):
Males: 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years)
Females: 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years)
Calories a day to stay at your weight = BMR × your activity level: 1.2 (mostly sitting), 1.375 (lightly active), 1.55 (moderately active), 1.725 (very active) or 1.9 (extra active).
It's an estimate. Your real BMR can be higher or lower, depending on things like your muscle mass and your health.
